First shipment of dry eucalyptus from Mantaro Valley to Germany
8.700 kilograms of the product were delivered to the city of Hamburg.

(Agraria.pe) Senasa Peru certified the first shipment of 8.700 kilograms of dry leaves of eucalyptus from Mantaro Valley (Junin) destinated to the German market.

According to the sanitary officials, this is the first shipment of its kind, which accomplished its certification after verifying no presence of pests or diseases, a process requiered by the importer.

Dry eucalyptus leaves will be used as filter because of its multiple health benefits, especially to cure cold o respiratory problems.

The product was distributed in 580 sacks of 15 kilograms each one with Hamburg as destination. The dry leaves were collected by entrepenaur women from Hualianta, district of Matahuasi in the province of Concepcion.

Senasa infomed there is a whole surveillance network with 36 traps located in facilities, airports and markets to identify quarantine pests and take proper action to protect the agricultural production of Junin. One of the pests under surveillance by Senasa is the ‘Gypsi moth’ (Lymantria dispar), which affects forest species like eucalyptus. The insect is not present in Peru.
